Grants to attend the 2025 SWALL Annual Meeting in Norman
The SWALL Lifetime Membership/Memorials and Grants Committee is pleased to announce the availability of the following three grants ($700 each) to attend the Annual SWALL meeting in Norman, Oklahoma, March 27-29, 2025. Please see the criteria below for each grant below. Grant applications are due by February 28, 2025.
- Kata Mara Grant Award: Established in 1986, this award is a general travel grant to be awarded to someone who will be attending his or her first SWALL meeting. Awardees do not have to be current members of SWALL. Financial need as well as a demonstrated interest in joining and becoming active in SWALL will be considered.
- Coco-Miller Grant Award: Established in 1998 to honor SWALL past presidents Al Coco and Oscar Miller, this award is a general travel grant to be awarded to current SWALL members who are attending the annual SWALL meeting.
- Marian Boner Grant Award: Established in 1990 to honor former SWALL president and the first director of the Texas State Law Library, this award is awarded to a current SWALL member to attend the annual SWALL Meeting. Recipients of this award must be an active SWALL officer or active committee member or be working on a current SWALL project.

Criteria for all grants:
- In addition to the criteria above, grants will be awarded based on:
- Proven or potential ability of the applicant to contribute to SWALL;
- Proven contributions of the applicant to SWALL and/or the profession; and
- Financial need.
- Applications will be graded blindly by the committee.
- Other grant restrictions:
- No person may receive more than one SWALL grant to either a SWALL or AALL meeting in a three-year period.
- No library may have employees receiving a SWALL grant to either a SWALL or AALL meeting two years in succession.
- Applicants cannot receive more than one type of SWALL grant in any year, but may apply for more than one.
- All funded awards must be used as stipulated. If any grant was not used as stipulated, or if for personal reasons a recipient cannot attend the program for which the grant was awarded, repayment of the grant must be made to SWALL immediately.
- Grants are non-transferable.
- Grants may be only be used to pay for the following items: registration fees, accommodations, food, and travel fares.
- All expenses must be confirmed by receipts, and those which are not, must be repaid to SWALL. The SWALL Life Membership/Memorials and Grants Committee Chair is the final judge whether or not an expense is legitimate.
- Within 30 days of return from the meeting, the grant recipient is required to submit the following to the SWALL Life Membership/Memorials and Grants Committee Chair:
- A narrative of the recipient’s overall conference or brief descriptive evaluations of the program(s) the recipient attended using the grant funds. This grant recipient must also submit this narrative to the SWALL Bulletin editor and webmaster for publication.
- All receipts documenting attendance and expenses. Copies will suffice.
- Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline, February 23, 2024, will be ineligible for consideration.
